Tyler S. Kleypas of Westphalia has won first place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars District 28 Voice of Democracy contest. A student of Rosebud-Lott High School, he is in the 11th grade.

The youth competed against entries from other posts across other counties. He had won in Cameron's Ben Milam VFW Post #2010 and his entry was submitted to the district.

Designed to foster patriotism, the competition is an audio essay contest that allows high school students to voice their opinion in a three-to-five minute essay based on an annual theme.

Kleypas is the son of Rita and Ronnie Kleypas of Westphalia.

The student garnished over $3,000 in scholarships for this achievement, and the community wishes him well.

On June 14, 2007, the Post hosted Cameron's Boy Scout Troop #752 in its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony, in keeping with Flag Day. On this day, area Scouts commemorated the flag, then ceremoniously and honorably disposed of torn and tattered ones. Afterwards the group was treated to hot dogs. The Post regularly collects worn and tattered flags from the public, retiring them in this fitting way. Scout Master Michael Trdy led the group, whose remarks were primarily offered by Troop Guide Matthew Chandler.
